Work Music

Generally when I'm working I need to have some music on. If I don't I get pretty easily distracted. If I'm just doing some internet stuff I'll listen to whatever, maybe look up some new bands. But when I'm working it's usually easier for me to listen to something that I know really well. It helps me focus because I'm paying less attention to what it sounds like or the lyrics. (which I'm probably singing wrong, anyway!) I've never been much of an instrumental person until recently. It's been really working for me when I want to get focused.

Here are a few jams that have been getting me through some work lately:

Do you guys have some favorites that help you get working? I'd love for you to share!

P.S. If you're having this crazy blizzard right now like we are here in Maine, be safe!

Happy Spring! Spring Jams

The first day of spring is probably one of my favorite days of the year. Even when we aren't quite as lucky with the weather I still love it. Spring is my fave! I love seeing everything come back to life, I love that little chill that still in the air from winter, I love love love seeing crocuses and tulips pop up everywhere annnnd my birthday is in spring!

I know that technically, it just started but here are some jams that I've been loving on the sunny days!

A new fave:

An older fave:

We got to see these guys a few weeks ago, thanks to our pal Justin, and they were so damn good! Go see them, if you can:

Well, I think I am going to go crack the window a little bit more before this streak of warm days returns to the less warm regular spring temps!

Some things...

  • Packing sucks.
  • I'm warm
  • I wish "sleeping through Ohio" was something I could put on a resume.
  • I'm chattin' with Amanda.
  • Here's a good jam:

  • Threw away a ton of old bills and papers today and it felt awesome.
  • Our new place has a compost bin and I'm overly excited about that for some reason.
  • My nose itches.
  • I'm in love with Ruby Jewel's lemon cookie with honey lavender ice cream ice cream sandwich. You can buy them for me by the case. Thanks in advance.
  • Now I'm hungry.

The two best things I ever got from someone's trash pile.

(Ok, maybe more like "stuff to be taken to the dump eventually" pile.) My little vintage Tele-tone portable record player and this record!

I was listening to it today while cleaning up around the house. It's kind of cheesy and kind of makes me smile the entire time I listen to it. My mom thinks it's corny that I love it so much. You guys should listen to Eydie's version of One Note Samba, it's my fave on the record:

It's the sound of my shoes.

First off - this video/song has been stuck in my head ever since my friend Ashley posted it on my wall on facebook a few weeks ago.

It's pretty ridiculous/awesome and Adam and I can't stop making jokes about it. I'm also in love with the hairpiece that the girl is wearing in the video. Especially the pom poms! I want to glue some on my face right now!

Things are moving forward wedding wise. I finally popped the save the dates in the mail and made a special little card for two super cute little ladies asking them to be our flower girls.

I realized last night how little I have thought about my dress. I've probably thought about it the least out of everything! At this point I have spent way waaaaay more time hunting down possible bridesmaid dresses. I even ordered one last night to see how it looks in person (thanks, Ma!) and I'm really hoping it's super cute!

In other news last night I made a Sim who has kelptomaniac as one of her traits. She stole someone's bathroom sink. I think her compulsion is out of control!

Dance Party Envy.

My pal, Zachary, mentioned to me today that he missed the dance parties we used to have when we were in college. Our friend DeAnne used to have the best parties in her little studio apartment. It was always good drinks, good snacks, good music and of course great company.

I have had some different music videos on my mind lately because the parties/crowds in them look like so much fun. Granted, it's something was produced to look that way, but whatever, you guys! Fun is fun!

This crowd watching Kid Sis... I want to be in it!

This one is totally cheesy but I'd down for this dance party.

Annd the dancing in this one just cracks me up!

I think I need a dance party! Soon! Maybe a Halloween one?

Ramona Cordova

I found this video on YouTube today and it made me happy so I thought I'd share!

Now off to hunt down my Ramona Cordova album!

summer music

I was making a mix the other day and I noticed that most of the album covers ( or at least what itunes was showing as the covers) seemed to fall into two similar groups. I thought they looked nice!

I don't know. I notice these things and it makes me happy.

Also, if your summer isn't already filled with Raphael Saadiq then it really really needs to be.

Well, I tried.

I really felt like making a playlist to post today, but it just wasn't working out. There has been pretty much one song on my brain since maybe Friday when I first heard it.

So this is what I'm listening to all day. What about you guys? I want to know what people listen to while they work!

(also it's super sunny and warm out! it's supposed to be 80 tomorrow!)

Slow Jams & Clouds

It's rainy today...which should be normal this time of year, but we just had a stretch of beautiful sunny balmy days. As a result I'm feeling sleepy and have been hunkered down on the couch all day working on some design stuff. Those of you who know me will know that I'm generally not much for slower music. I like to feel energized when I have music on. Motivated! Happy! Ready to dance! That's usually me! I can make playlist upon playlist of songs to move around too, but it just took me almost a week to put together a short one of songs that are slower. Not sad really, but slower. It's just fitting my pace today so I'll share it with you just in case it's raining where you are too! Oh and once again, you'll have better luck if you pop out the player!

It's rocky.

OK, well I have nothing really to share today except for this playlist that I'm listening while I attempt to get some stuff done. I recommend popping it out to listen if you want to because for some reason it's not all fitting.

Adam is making color palettes for a game at work today and I'm completely jealous.

Estelle!

This is what I am listening to today while doing some work for Kristine:

Estelle - "American Boy" ft. Kanye West

I can't stop dancing in my seat!

stay focused, sarah

i made this mix on mixwit the other day. i usually listen to much faster music, but when i was doing design work the other day it was distracting me and causing me to design things that i knew wouldn't work out for the people i'm doing work for. that's how much what i'm listening to effects me. so i looked up some songs i haven't heard in a while and made this mix.

i feel like a slug right now. slow and lazy. it's going to be a busy, busy week full of cleaning and making and designing. BUT, it will end with my birthday and my adam and my brother and two friends from back home. i think i'm going to switch up the colors on my blog.

so today i sent out my cds for the best of 2k7 swap on swap-bot. i chose to pick the songs i listened to the most and had connections to instead of songs just from 2k7. i didn't get to buy many albums this year, so that would have been hard. but i did get a chance to listen to some stuff that i had had for a long time and never really listened to. it was fun drawing on the cd sleeves. each one has something a little bit different written on it, but they all pretty much say the same thing. on even includes my scary plane experience from a few months ago.

i'm coooold. i made awesome turkey burgers tonight. actually, now that i think about it, it was the first time i've ever made turkey burgers. while they were in the pan i sprinkled coarse ground pepper, sea salt and garlic salt on them. then i made a sauce to put on them made from avocado, cilantro, tofutti sour cream and lime juice. so tasty!!

also the hamburger buns we got are called "outdoor buns". outdoor buns, wtf?
